Dental education in United States especially University of minnesota Research Paper
Dental education in United States especially University of minnesota - Research Paper exemplificationAccording to this work, Hayden was born in a military family with most of the members of his family serving as honorable military personnel. In fact, it is documented that one of his ancestors served as a captain in the Pequot war for a whole lifetime. Haydens first career was architecture but after taking a vacation in in the raw York and visiting Dr. Greenwood, he changed his vocation to dentistry. He then moved back to Baltimore and established a dental office or clinic treating patients with dental problems within his reach. At the start, dentistry was majorly learnt through the mediocre preceptorial system that made it look like a mechanical process instead of the science that it was. Despite the existence of a national dentistry union in the United States, many of the practitioners were not treated as members of an organized profession. In fact from the start, the members of th e profession were subjected to a preaching that focused on the viability of the profession. As a result, the training on the profession experienced a number of challenges that were based on the admission of the profession to the correction of medicine. In this paper, while examining the history of dentistry education in the United States, also explores the fact that the establishment of dental education was marred with an infinitive link among the subject and medical education. As such the difference caused a rift that would shape the acceptance of the practice and education of the same.Thesis the establishment of various carry legislations and provisions within law led to the recognition of dentistry in the education system and medical fraternity. The introduction of dental studies and its origins in Maryland and the influence of the British nationals, therefore, has a special relation. The British threat of Baltimore in 1813 made Hayden enlist as a private in the army commande d by schoolmaster Christian Anderson within the Maryland

Learning English by Lynn Cameron. Learning Literacy Skills, Grammar Essay
Learning incline by Lynn Cameron. Learning Literacy Skills, Grammar and Learning through and through Stories - Essay ExampleIn the first parts of the chapter, topics such as the theory of how grammar is learned is first presented. As the chapter progresses, this theory is applied through techniques that are effective inside the classroom. At the opening of the chapter, the author negates the ongoing belief that grammar has no place in a young learner classroom (Cameron 96). By exploring the idea of learning grammar through the eyes of the learner, Cameron opens an avenue for the possibility of effectively teaching grammar to very young English verbiage learners. Here, on of the most important point that Cameron emphasized is that grammar is well tied into meaning and use of language, and is inter-connected with vocabulary (Cameron 96). This makes one realize therefore that it is possible that there is no such thing as wrong grammar, nevertheless just a non-standard grammar when a pplied in the English language. However, this does not mean that grammar is not important, since it is crucial especially in expressing precise meanings in discourse (Cameron 98). This is where pedagogic grammars come into play. According to Cameron, Pedagogical grammars are explicit descriptions of patterns, or rules, in a language, presented in ways that are helpful to teachers and to learners (100). ... It can also be inferred from this chapter that since different languages may have different rules in grammar, English language learners could benefit from encouraging their curiosity, and being introduced to the patterns and contrasts in and between languages in and between the learners first language and English (Cameron 121). This also means that teaching grammar to young English language learners can be done effectively not through formal teaching, but by introducing it whenever an opportunity shows up. Here is where one of the strongest points of the chapter lies. All within these theories and principles of teaching presented, the author also focuses on presenting classroom data. This allows readers to link the chapters concepts to application inside the classroom, and to focus on what really happens inside classrooms of young English language learners. It is also good that this style is presented through conversations with different young learners, because not only it shows that it is applicable in almost every foreign learner situation, but also emphasizes that there are still several emergent concepts inside a young English language learners classroom. Chapter 6 Learning Literacy Skills In this chapter, author Lynn Cameron provides readers important insights on how young learners of English develop literacy skills. Just like the previous chapter, this specific neighborhood of learning in a young English learners classroom requires a teacher who is not only skilled in teaching, but also reasoning(a) when it comes to some issues and concerns on the l earning of literacy skills especially of young kids. The chapter provides useful information on the applicable strategies and effective principles for teaching based on the contemporary

Describe the three major causes of soil erosion Essay
Describe the three major ca manipulations of nastiness erosion - Essay ExampleThe formation of a 1 centimeter soil can run through up to 400 years and the production of a sufficient depth of farming might take 3,000-12,000 years (Edwards, 2005, p. 36). Soils are easily and increasingly decay but may take years to form, leading to ruining of land resources. Soil erosion rapidly occurs in mismanaged lands, lands where protective vegetation is removed, places with rapid commonwealth growth, steep lands, and places with extreme climatic conditions or rainfall is seasonal, downpour, and unreliable (Edwards, 2005, p. 36). In line with the rapid occurrence of soil erosion are major ca intakes of soil erosion which the essay will discuss in detail. This includes overcultivation, overgrazing, and deforestation. Soil erosion is a natural process but intimately of the human interventions contribute to the increase incidences of soil erosion. The potential harm to the ecological balance, bi ological species, and human harm is insurmountable thus, this paper will discuss in addition the cause, promoting factors, effect, and examples of overcultivation, overgrazing, and deforestation discovered within the society. ... In addition, overcultivation partly occurs due to introduction and use of mechanized machinery such as tractors and discs ploughs and the introduction of irrigation schemes (Park, 2001, p. 438). Overcultivation is one of the major causes of soil erosion. The constant use of land for crop production removes the protective soil covering and crops do not have the capacity to strongly hold the soil, which increase the risks of soil erosion. Likewise, the use of tractors and disc ploughs destroy native perennial vegetation, encourage soil degradation, and remove protective soil cover (Park, 2001, p. 438). Due to the removal of soil covering, topsoil is uncovered to wind erosion and blown away, making the soil dry and infertile. Water irrigation is the proposed solution for dry lands but often increases soil salinity and water enter which may also increase the likelihood of erosion if left abandoned (Park, 2001, p. 438). Thus, it can be inferred that when there is overcultivation, the possibility of soil erosion is likewise to occur. Overgrazing Overgrazing is the most widespread cause of soil erosion and occurs when there are too many animals for the amount of grass available (Edwards, 2005, p. 36 Waugh, 2003, p. 254). Overgrazing is common among traditional farmers who depose heavily on grazing animals. Overgrazing can be attributed to a variety of factors such as status symbol, food security, food supply, rise of export agriculture, and veterinary care (Park, 2001, p. 438). Overgrazing makes the soil condition worse. Palatable plants are replaced by unpalatable plants, pressure increases on the less-grazed pasture, bare ground, sand sheets and dunes increases which

Who needs Superstars Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Who needfully Superstars - Essay ExampleA corporate superstar is someone that shines above al of the rest and the article refers to the fact that in that respect is non enough talent in corporate America. There are the Bill furnish and the Donald Trumps of the business globe but e precise disposal needs their own Gates and Trumps and having just one in the organization is not enough. However, Article 18 points verboten that the Gates and Trumps of the corporate world are rare. The article likens them to unicorns, the mythical beast with special powers and explains that many corporations give their resources to discovering a unicorn. It also examines the fact that there are not enough unicorns out there and presents a solution to this problem. There article also includes a parole of what a corporation has to do with the unicorn once they risk it. If one of these corporate superstars is expected to perform to their capabilities and display their talent they must be challenged. The difficulty in this is that talent is so rare it is easier for an organization to dedicate their resources to working with a group of normal individuals to acquire talent out of the group of them. Article 18 also details the problems that organizations have with structure. It describes initiative programs beat into motion by corporations but and also details how most times these initiatives are not followed through with. It is necessary for the talent in the company to be challenged in order for them to prosper but Article 18 points out that in most companies this is not done. ApplicationThe premise of talent can be applied to my life and my place of work. Where I work everyone does what they are supposed to do to keep their jobs and not much more. I work with some very intelligent people who actually are probably very talented. However, their talent does not rise to the top because they are not challenged. I believe that there is routine in the workplace and this gives an atmo sphere for mediocrity. The work environment is one of routine and if initiatives were given and followed through with, I think that more people readiness go the extra step and their true talent and potential would surface. I think that potential is a very important word in this discussion because its as if not enough people perform to their potential. At my workplace, the employees walk around like robots and do their tasks in a routine manner openhanded nothing extra. However, it is important to point out that hard work is not rewarded in the company I work for. That brings up another point that needs to be addressed and that is does hard work have to be rewarded or should it be expected I feel that talented people in an organization are those individuals that put one hundred percent effort into everything that do. I also that they do this not to be rewarded but because that is how they perform and that is what makes them talented. The problem is how to arse around the talent ou t of people. The question that is being examined in this portion is how to apply this premise to a place of work. As I pointed out my placer of work is fill up with individuals who do what is expected of them and nothing more. Would initiatives work I believe some motivation would be helpful but as Article 18 pointed out an initiative program needs structure and must be followed through with.I think that at my place of work there would be no structure to an initiative plan. I do feel it would be embraced at the beginning but would eventually fade out and everyones attitude would be choke to where it is now. This brings up the point of being rewarded and expecting it. I know all

Frank Too Big Too Ignore Essay Example for Free
dog-iron Too Big Too Ignore judgeIncome divergence Too Big to IgnoreSummaryRobert Frank, a professer at Cornell University, published an article for the New York Times on October 16, 2010. The title of the article was Income Inequality Too Big to Ignore. In Income Inequality Too Big to Ignore, Frank argues that there are differences in the social crime syndicatees of the American people and that it is having a detrimental effect on our economys growth. Frank explains that middle class citizens are in a struggle to maintain a good financial position. Meanwhile, the upper class citizens are spending copious amounts of money which makes it increasingly more difficult for the middle class to meet their basic needs. He says that the middle class are looking toward upper class citizens, comparing their posesions as well as their financial positions which makes the middle class feel financially unstable.Frank explains that the income gap in the midst of the classes are causing d istress on marriages of American citizens. He states that divorce rates rise when people are in financial distress. in jointure with finincial uneasyness, Frank explains that the willingness to ignore infrastructure is an effect as well as the relocation of lower class families to places that are further away from their places of employment. Frank concludes by how the income gap is not only unfair, but that it would be unwise to continue on the current path of income inequality. ConnectionsFrank has a very bleak legal opinion of the economic status of America in which he shares with Herbert. One of the main evidences of this point is the comparison of Franks quote in which he states By contrast, during the last trinity tenners, the economy has grown much more slowly, and our infrastructure has fallen into grave dis furbish up. (580) with Herberts quote It will likely take many years, perhaps a decade or more, to get employment back to a level at which one could fairly say the ec onomy is thriving. (564)In comparison between Frank and doubting Thomas, each author believes that there is something wrong with the system and that the American people need to dosomething about it. This can be justified within Thomas and Franks articles. Frank states No one dares to argue that rising inequality is required in the name of fairness. So maybe we should just correspond that its a no-account thing and try to do something about it.(584). Thomas explains We must also understand what got us here and the path that leads upward. (570)Frank can also agree with Brandon King in the fact that America is still repairable. King states If the Great Recession has taught us anything, it is that planning for the future by saving more and enacting policies that adjudge economic growth are what will keep the American Dream alive. In comparison, Frank believes that we need to consult the problem in order to repair it.

Human Resources Essay Example for Free
Human Resources EssayEmployees are always considered an asset to the organization. However organizations disregard never estimate what amount of this asset is required. Usually the number of employees is either higher than wanted or lower than wanted. Thus to cope up with either surpluses or shortages organizations find a number of methods that are as follows To wangle shortage of employees The first and foremost method to slash shortages is recruiting more permanent employees. This increases the number of batforce as required by the organization. However increasing forward-looking employees increases costs for the organization as well. Another method to overcome shortages is to retain employees within the organization who are retiring and offer them added incentives on a of late retirement. Similarly another approach to lower down costs and still come over shortages can be to hire retired individuals again on a actuate magazine basis. This helps the organization to meet the shortage requirement in an efficient manner as no training is required and also the part time wages are low.Another approach can be to reduce turnovers by providing turn a profits such as premium pay etc. This is an powerful way to retain old employees tho can elicit a bidding war which the organization might not be able to fit for a long time (Caruth, 1997). Over time and subcontracting is also a good way to deal with shortages. Sub contracting is an expensive procedure but obviously for a short time the company could afford to contract employees. Temporary hiring is also an option and is somewhat similar to sub contracting.Re creationing the job processes so that lesser employees are required is also a way to deal with shortages. This method though requires training so that employees adapt to the new job design and are comfortable with it and doesnt result in heavier workloads and lowering down the talent level. To Manage Surplus of employees Surpluses are easier to manage then shortages. Stopping the hiring process, no replacements of those who leave, layoffs, offering early retirements etc are one of the most commonly used downsizing techniques (Mathis, 2004).Downsizing activities however have a negative effect on existing employees motivation and thus are usually avoided by most organizations. By introducing the shift system, number of hours worked can be reduced and efficiency of employees can be increased. Similarly, outsourcing or temporary employees shouldnt be hired as thither is already a surplus. To lower down costs, the company can either cut down pays across the board or switch to a variable pay plan (number of hours worked multiplied by per hour rate). In either way those with a lower pay or those who work lesser hours impart prefer finding a new job that pays them more. educational activity is also a good way to deal with surpluses. Train half of the employees at a given time and let the other half work then train the later half and l et the first half work. Though this is also something expensive and in the long run of no benefit to the organization. Voluntary severance is also another way in which you ask employees to volunteer if they want to leave the organization.Another way to utilize abundance of employees is by expanding operations. Though a firm cannot expand operations overnight nor it can expand them just to accommodate extra employees when there is no need of an expansion. channel Description My current job is as a gross revenue and marketing executive at a technology corporation. I report directly to my sales and marketing film director. The basic purpose of my job is to plan and carry out product activation and brand awareness activities in order to increase and stomach sales of my company. The core responsibilities of the job include developing and maintaining a database of customers and potential customers, to plan and carry out sales activities, develop new ideas, keep a track of sales performa nces, provide management with applicable information, frequently research on the market, the competitors and the customers in order to cope up with the changing needs, make connections with clients for line of business and organizational development, conduct training sessions to pass on my learning, skills and knowledge to my juniors.Apart from these I have to readily keep my colleagues up to date with all relevant information so that the department is on the same page in meetings or conferences. Communication is one of the foremost things in my job and I have to take care that relevant information reaches the pertaining individual on time. Redesigning the job description In order to redesign my job description following the abut I think the first thing that should be focused upon is that the job shouldnt be monotonous as it is in the above mentioned case. The duties should vary from unvoiced to difficult and from usual to unusual. Skill variety should be a basic part of it. This will lead to an increase of interest towards the job and thus will increase my motivation. My performance will also be unquestionably improved as I will be learning something different every time and this will be adding to my experience and skills. This will also alleviate the redundancy in my job to some extent (Tanke, 2000). One thing that I see is lacking in my job is the power of making decisions on my own.As already mentioned I report to my director. At times he is not in the field and he does not have the true picture. In such cases a delay in decision making can be high-priced for the organization. Thus sales executives should be given the autonomy to at times make decision on their own which can benefit the company. Obviously everyone knows that awry(p) decision will result in losing the job. So every employee will definitely think for the best of the organization before taking any actions.Employee dominance results in increasing employee confidence and provides them w ith new experiences particular to dealing with responsibilities. In turn, employees are satisfied with their jobs, feel a relationship with the organization and get a morale boost. One way to make an employee feel important is to provide feed back. Feedback tells the employee if their work is appreciated or not and in what areas they need to improve. If my director gets feed back from a client on any activity that I planned then it should be known to me as well.Apart from this there should be a little more flexibility in the management attitude so that they also understand that every employee has different needs (Tanke, 2000). standardised my job could be more exciting if the management does not keep me sitting in the office just to fill in the hours an employee has to be on his seat. It would be beneficial for both if I am out in the field and monitoring and assisting in the sales activities. All these steps will definitely improve performance, motivation and satisfaction.
